A House committee made the first move Tuesday to replace the Common Core educational standards in public schools, and the Senate is expected to take up its version of the bill Wednesday.
Gov. Pat McCrory and state business leaders expressed concern at the moves.

The House committee also approved a bill that allows school faculty to participate in student-led prayers, despite concerns raised by some lawmakers that the measure would invite lawsuits over its constitutionality.
