Fayetteville police arrested a man Saturday in the death of his 4-year-old son, who accidentally shot himself.

Jefferey Perez, 32, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to secure a firearm, according to police.

Officers responded to the west Fayetteville home, at 1608 Stanford Court, shortly before 11 a.m Saturday.

According to investigators, 4-year-old Killian Perez found the loaded gun on top of the refrigerator before accidentally shooting himself. Emergency crews attempted to treat him, but he was pronounced dead at the home. 

Police said two other children were in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not harmed. 

Perez is a soldier in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, police said.

He was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center, but was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond Saturday. 

Less than a month ago, 2-year-old Samarria Tyana Beauford accidentally shot and killed herself after finding a loaded gun under a couch in a home on Graham Road. 

Melvin Andre Clark Jr., 19, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon  in the death of his daughter.
