winter campaign kicked off this weekend.

The first checkpoints in the area stopped drivers in Wake and Durham counties Friday night.

Last year, more than 11,000 people were arrested at checkpoints across the state for suspected drunken driving.

The winter campaign runs through Jan. 1.
