Crime Down In Durham, According To Police Report

The number of crimes in the Bull City is at a four-year low, according to the Durham Police Department.

The department reports a 9 percent drop in crimes reported from last year's first quarter; in 2004, there were 3,180 in 2004 and 2,905 in 2005.

Violent crimes, such as murder, rape, and robbery saw a 20 percent decline.

There was a slight increase, however, in aggravated assaults this year.

Durham's police chief said the report will be presented to the Durham City Council on Monday.
