N.C. Seat Belt Law May Get Tougher

State lawmakers want tougher penalties for seat belt violators.

Under a

new bill

proposed Tuesday in the state Senate, everyone in a vehicle would have to buckle up.

The measure also raises the fine for violators from $25 to $50. Drivers would also get a point on their driver's licenses.

If approved, the act would take effect Dec. 1.
