Commission: Sanford Man Did Not Own Bankrupt Cemetery

The man who buried a Sanford cemetery in debt did not even own it.

Derek Roberts declared bankruptcy on Lee Memory Gardens. However, the North Carolina Cemetery Commission says he never owned the property.

The commission is trying to figure out how that happened. Last year, auditors found problems with the cemetery's book-keeping.

Now, many families stand to lose thousands of dollars on plots and vaults.
