Vance County Authorities Investigate Why Deputy Maced Student

The Vance County Sheriff's Office is investigating why one of its own used mace to subdue a high-school student.

Deputy Eric Johnston is a security officer at Southern Vance High School. According to witnesses, he restrained a student involved in a fight Thursday and then used mace.

Four students had trouble breathing but recovered without having to go to the hospital.

Johnson is no longer working security at the school while the sheriff's office investigates.
