Chapel Hill To Install Red Light Cameras

The Triangle is getting two more red-light cameras.

Beginning Sept. 1, there will be two cameras in service in Chapel Hill -- one at the intersection of Airport Road and Estes Drive and another where U.S. 15-501, Sage Road and Scarlett Drive come together.

Another eight cameras will be installed over the coming months.

European cities started using cameras to catch red-light runners. Now the cameras are in about 50 U.S communities, including several cities and towns in North Carolina.
