Rain Hinders Highway 401 Widening Project

Another projected completion date has come and gone and Highway 401 drivers in Wake County are wondering when all the construction will end.

Engineers with the state Department of Transporation claim rain has delayed the long-awaited widening of Highway 401 between Spring Forest Road and Mitchell Mill Road.

The project is about a year behind schedule.

DOT officials said there could be several more weeks of work before the orange barrels leave.
