APEX, N.C. — For the eighth year in a row, Apex United Methodist Church will hold its "Prom Shoppe" event this weekend to give away prom dresses, shoes and accessories to underprivileged girls.

The event will be held from 3 to 7 pm. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, at 100 S. Hughes St.

The event has served hundreds of girls in the last eight years, and organizers say there is no prerequisite of proof of need required to take advantage of the free prom gear. The donation deadline is Friday, and those wishing to donate can drop items off at Apex United Methodist Church.
