Apex man charged in Pittsboro homicide

An Apex man has been charged in the Tuesday morning slaying of a Pittsboro man, police said.

PITTSBORO, N.C. — An Apex man has been charged in the Tuesday morning slaying of a Pittsboro man, police said.

Demetrius John Johnson, 24, of 146 Anterbury Drive, was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the death of Christopher Eugene Person.

Person, 26, was assaulted at 344 S. Small St. in Pittsboro at about 1:40 a.m. Paramedics weren't able to revive him, and he died at the scene, police said.

His body has been sent to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Johnson remains in the Chatham County jail without bond.
