Apex man charged in domestic assault

Chatham County sheriff's deputies charged an Apex man for allegedly trying to strangle a woman when she picked up their baby from his house.

APEX, N.C. — Chatham County sheriff's deputies charged an Apex man with trying to strangle a woman when she picked up their baby from his house Friday night.

Deputies said that Eric Wyrick, 26, of 2239 Holland Chapel Road, cursed at Veronica Salas and grabbed her by the neck. She managed to escape and called 911.

The assault left marks on Salas' neck, deputies said.

Wyrick was charged with felony assault by strangulation and assault on a female. He was being held in the Chatham County Jail Monday under a $1,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for July 27.
