— The town of Apex has banned outdoor water irrigation.

Bucket watering, hand watering, car washing and power washing are still permitted. However, exterior fountains may not be filled.

Special permits for establishing lawns will no longer be issued. Previously issued permits are valid for the remainder of the 60-day time period or 30 days from Friday, whichever comes first.

First-time violators get a warning, then a $50 fine for each additional offense. After that, the fine increases gradually with each offense, up to $1,000.

The new restrictions take effect on Friday.
