RALEIGH, N.C. — Cars were in line as early at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday to wait for Wednesday morning's fresh chicken sale at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
The popular sale officially starts at 9 a.m., but at least 100 cars were waiting at the fairgrounds on Blue Ridge Road at 4 a.m. House of Raeford Farms organizers said they expect to serve at least four times the amount of people they served in Knightdale on Tuesday.

How to buy and store the chicken

Get there early and have cash! Cases of 40 lbs. of fresh chicken cost around $40, depending on the type of chicken you buy.

When you get home, freeze the chicken as soon as possible, although raw chicken can stay in the refrigerator for about seven days. To avoid freezer burn, wrap the chicken tightly in a layer of plastic wrap or freezer paper, then aluminum foil, and put it in a freezer bag or plastic container.
