Duke: Masks no longer required on buses and vans

Duke University announced Sunday masks will no longer be required on buses and vans on campus.

According to a statement from the university, the decision was in large part due to up to 90% of the campus population having been either vaccinated or infected with COVID-19, which has lead to a "steep decline in cases and severe illness."

Duke said that while masking is now recommended instead of required on buses and vans, masking will still be required for all patient-care and clinical settings for people who are symptomatic and around other people, regardless of vaccination status.

As for vaccinations, Duke said their medical experts are currently determining if there will be possible changes to the university's vaccination requirements, due to the increase in "community immunity levels and decline in severity of illness."

The mandate was put in place September 2021.
