LAURINBURG, N.C. — An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday afternoon for a 4-year-old Scotland County boy.

Raul Johnson is described as being Hispanic, 3 feet tall and weighing 38 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. The child was last seen wearing his pajamas, which were described as a white-and-orange striped shirt with tigers on it and white pants with rocket ships on them.

Authorities said Johnson's grandfather was watching him at about 11 a.m. when he lost track of the boy. When the grandfather couldn't find Johnson after about 20 minutes, he contacted police.

The boy, who authorities said was barefoot, was last seen on traveling on foot on Village Drive in the direction of Crestline Road in Laurinburg.

Crews on Wednesday night were searching two ponds near the place where Johnson was last seen after police dogs tracked the boy's scent to the bodies of water and authorities spotted barefoot footprints near the ponds.

Authorities were also searching a nearby wooded area for Johnson.

“We’ve got trained people out there, they’ve come from all over north and south Carolina and hopefully this will be over soon,” Capt. Ralph Kersey.

More than 200 law enforcement officers and volunteers were assisting in the search Wednesday night.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-276-3385.
