Amanda Lamb: Tribe building

Women are resilient and strong, and we are stronger together. This is a message and a legacy I want to leave for my daughters.

I think one of the most important things that we can model for our daughters is showing them how to build a circle of women who will support them throughout their lives.

As we get older, face more challenges and gain life experience, we benefit from sharing those experiences and wisdom with others. But in addition to that, we have the responsibility to build a bridge between what we have learned and what our children have yet to learn.

I had the unique opportunity to co-host an inaugural women’s retreat this past weekend at the beach. We gathered together a fantastic group of leaders—entrepreneurs, professionals, and women in transition. The goal was to share our vision and to figure out how we can continue to learn, grow and contribute to our communities.

Frankly, something magical happens when you get a group of women like this together. It allows you to see things from a different perspective and to understand that all of us face and are seeking to overcome struggles in our lives. But maybe even more importantly, it has solidified my belief that women are resilient and strong, and we are stronger together.

This is a message and a legacy I want to leave for my daughters. And I believe they are already living into it. They have their own tribes – the school tribe, the dance tribe, the sorority tribe. And like me, who also has a long list of tribes for the different parts of my life, we get and we give uniquely to these groups of women.

The best part is that it is never too late to find your tribe. They are probably right in front of you – you just need to reach out and connect with them. Like the African Proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
