All lanes of I-40 have reopened after two crashes on Thursday morning caused westbound lanes to close between Aviation Parkway and Harrison Avenue.

At 7:22 a.m. the NCDOT tweeted, "All lanes of I-40 West are closed between Harrison Ave (Exit 287) and Aviation Pkwy (Exit 285) due to a pair of crashes. Traffic is backed up all the way to NC-54/Chapel Hill Rd (Exit 290). Please exit there (or sooner) to get around the closure."

WRAL's Traffic Cams showed that all vehicles had been diverted from I-40 westbound near Aviation Parkway. The only vehicles on the road there were first responders and those from the crash. Fire trucks and first responders could be seen on the scene.

Traffic congestion and delays could be seen all the way down to I-40 at Wade Avenue. The best way to get around it was taking NC-54, which is Chapel Hill Road.
