Posted Updated

WAYNE COUNTY — Two Triangle sheriff's offices grabbed more than 1,200 marijuana plants in two helicopter-aided operations, they said Friday.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a National Guard helicopter unit helped drug investigators find and uproot 1,197 plants from several locations in the county Thursday afternoon. Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said the plants were valued at more than $1 million.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said its “RAVEN” helicopter found about 50 marijuana plants in four different locations in the county Thursday.

The first location was near the 600 block of Hare Road in Goldsboro. An investigation is continuing into the ownership of those plants.

The second and third locations were in the 4000 block of N.C. 13 South in Goldsboro. The fourth location was near the 6000 block of N.C. 13.

The plants seized, if grown to maturity, could have had a street value of approximately $120,000, the sheriff's office said.

Investigations are continuing in both counties. Neither set of raids brought arrests.
