RALEIGH, N.C. — If you like roller coasters, buckle up, because the Triangle's weather is taking us on an up-and-down ride all week.

After days of spring-like warmth, the Triangle woke up to a frigid 27 degrees Saturday morning, after a hard freeze overnight. Saturday afternoon will remain chilly, with temperatures barely crawling up to a high of 48 degrees.

While Saturday is dry and mostly sunny, WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said second half of the weekend could bring some rain.

Sunday will warm up to 57 degrees, but bring a 20% chance of rain. "There's a small chance of afternoon showers and evening sprinkles," said Sheerwood. Showers could start around 1:00 p.m.

Monday and Tuesday bring the spring-like warmth once again, but an approaching cold front could bring rain Tuesday morning, going into the afternoon and evening. Rounds of showers could continue into Wednesday.

Alongside the rain, temps will climb back into the 60's for Monday and Tuesday. But it wouldn't be a roller coaster without another downward plunge -- and temperatures drop to a freezing low of 28 on Thursday, around 10 degrees cooler than is typical for this time of year.

Friday will remain cool, with temps in the 40s.
