RALEIGH, N.C. — Advance Auto Parts announced Tuesday that it is moving its corporate headquarters to a new high-rise tower in Raleigh's North Hills area, adding a major Fortune 500 company to the mix in the already bustling live-work-play development.

The company said in a written statement that it has signed a lease with Kane Realty to occupy 218,000 square feet over seven floors in Tower 4, which will be renamed the Advance Auto Parts Tower,

The firm currently has its main headquarters in offices located on Millbrook Road in addition to occupying two floors of office space in the Duke Energy building in downtown Raleigh.

The company is scheduled to begin the move into the new building during the latter part of 2020, according to the statement.

“We are building a world class company with a world class culture focused on attracting and retaining world class Team Members – our move to North Hills will help those efforts,” Tom Greco, company CEO and president said in the statement. “This new headquarters facility is another symbol of the strong progress we have made in our ongoing transformation journey."

The company said its current Raleigh-based workers are housed in six different sites throughout the Triangle.

Said Greco: "This new facility will enable us to have all of our Raleigh-based corporate Team Members in one location, enabling us to work more collaboratively, efficiently and effectively."

The company announced last November that it was relocating from Roanoke, Va., to North Carolina and designating Raleigh as its corporate headquarters and expanding operations in Wake County, a move that was expected to add 435 new jobs over five years.

The move comes five years after Advance Auto bought Raleigh-based General Parts International, which operated Carquest auto parts stores, for $2 billion. Advance already employs more than 700 people in Raleigh and more than 2,900 in North Carolina.

The new tower is being developed by Kane Realty.

"We are thrilled that Advance has chosen North Hills in Raleigh for their corporate headquarters location,” said John Kane, CEO of Kane Realty Corporation. “We know that midtown Raleigh will provide an unmatched place to work, live, visit and connect for all of Advance’s stakeholders

North Hills is having a major growth spurt, that will include three new buildings that will include office space, hotel rooms and more residential units.

Some residents have expressed concern about traffic in the area as a result of the explosive growth.

“It’s a great location — convenience to the Beltline,” Bruce Oliver said. “But you can only stand so much traffic, and it’s going to drive people away from the stores there, if they can’t get in and out.”
