RALEIGH, N.C. — For the second time in two weeks, drivers in the Fortify construction zone will notice a ramp closure at Gorman Street beginning Thursday night and lasting through the weekend.

Crews will shut down the westbound exit ramp onto Gorman Street beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The exit will reopen in time for the Monday morning commute.

A signed detour will send westbound traffic to Cary Towne Boulevard (Exit 291), where drivers can go right at the end of the ramp, cross over I-40 and then turn left to get onto eastbound lanes of the highway and return to Gorman Street.

Drivers can also exit I-40 one exit earlier, at Lake Wheeler Road, and use Tryon Road or Centennial Parkway and Avent Ferry Road to get to Gorman Street.

During the closure, crews will be repaving the exit ramp, which is part of the larger project to rebuild all of I-40 on the south side of Raleigh.

Drivers should reduce their speed in the work zone and pay close attention to signs in the area.
