— Kerry Washington, actress and producer, will host three events for Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden in Durham on Saturday afternoon. Her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, will join her campaigning.

Washington is best known for her role as Olivia Pope in the TV series "Scandal." Her husband received critical acclaim for his role of Carl King in the movie "Crown Heights."

The two will lead an early voter mobilization event to "build on the enthusiasm" of the North Carolinians who have already cast their ballot.

Washington and Asomugha will sit down with Black North Carolinians to discuss the "importance of voting to affect change," according to the Biden-Harris campaign.

Washington, who received four Emmy nominations this year, was an emcee one night of the Democratic National Convention. She hosted on the night when former President Barack Obama and Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris spoke.

The events will be hosted by the Biden-Harris campaign.

Joe Biden plans to visit Durham on Sunday to encourage voters to cast their ballot early, according to his campaign. This would be Biden's second visit to North Carolina campaigning for president.

Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for vice president, was scheduled to attend campaign events in Asheville and Charlotte on Oct. 15. Her campaign canceled the events after learning some staffers tested positive for the coronavirus.

President Donald Trump held a campaign event in Greenville on Thursday -- less than two weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

A recent poll conducted by WRAL shows that Trump is losing ground to Joe Biden in North Carolina.

Biden now holds a 50-45 percent lead over Trump in the state. In a WRAL News poll conducted a month ago, both men were tied at 47 percent each.
