FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was implicated in the theft of copper piping from a local home after authorities said they found his pants at the crime scene.

Elmer Leon Spears Jr., 19, of 1429 McArthur Road, was arrested Monday and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and felony possession of stolen goods. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $70,000 bond.

Someone broke into a home on the 6700 block of Agnes Scott Court on Aug. 11 and stole copper piping and a gas line, valued at $4,420, from a utility closet, authorities said. Investigators said they found a pair of pants with Spears' driver’s license in a pocket inside the house.
