Accused Bank Robber Who Eluded Police Across Country Captured

A man wanted for robbing banks in four states, including one in Raleigh, is behind bars.

FAYETTE — A man wanted for robbing banks in four states, including one in Raleigh, is behind bars.

Anthony Ray Artrip was captured Monday after a standoff in western Pennsylvania.. He was recently featured on the Fox 50 television show "NC Wanted."

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Artrip was hiding in the attic of the Knights Inn in South Fayette Township when he was arrested.

Artrip escaped from the Grant County Detention Center in Williamston, Ky., on June 24 while awaiting sentencing in federal court for three counts of bank robbery, authorities said.

Since then, he has been linked to a June 30 bank robbery in Princeton, W.Va., and the July 2 robbery of a Wachovia branch in Raleigh's Five Points neighborhood, authorities said.
