Gas prices will keep rising this summer after plummeting during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report from AAA.

One viewer told WRAL he noticed a jump from $1.40 to $2 in just two weeks.

The average gas price in North Carolina could hit $2 before we know it.

“Although pump prices are still cheaper than the past few years, these averages are the most expensive in 10 weeks,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA spokesperson. “Prices could reach $2 per gallon if crude oil and wholesale gasoline continues to rise.”

The average gas price in North Carolina is currently $1.85, according to AAA.

The national average gas price, which was below the $2 gallon mark for 66 days, is already up to $2.03.

Despite the uptick, gas prices this summer will still be cheaper than last, AAA said.

"Although oil prices rose more than 10% last week and the price for a barrel of U.S. crude settled at the highest price since March, the South and Southeast continues to claim the cheapest prices in the country – all under $1.99," according to AAA.
