DUNN, N.C. — The Harnett Health System will host its first mass COVID-19 vaccine clinic for frontline essential workers in Group 3 on Friday.

The clinic will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the City of Dunn Community Center at 205 Jackson Road.

According to officials, the Harnett Health System has administered 14,000 vaccines since March, hosting mass clinics every week. Friday's clinic will be the first clinic open to all frontline workers in Group 3. Organizers hope to vaccinate at least 3,000 people in a single day -- which is double the amount of vaccines usually given at their clinics.

Drive-up and walk-up services will both be available, and appointments are not required. The clinic will be run by Harnett Health System hospital staff and nursing and medical students from Campbell University.

"I'll feel like it's going to give me a little more insurance and more relief -- more comfortable than I do now," said 70-year-old Oscar Rodriguez, who showed up before 5:30 a.m. to wait for his second dose of the vaccine.

“In a very bleak and depressing year, it is nice to have a ray of hope with these vaccines," said Harnett Health president Cory Hess. "People are happy when they leave here and they can go back to their lives and see the grandkids again, so things are trending in the right way."

According to Hess, although there are still a significant number of COVID-19 cases in Central Harnett Hospital, totals are "not nearly what we had in January.”

People who aren't able to get a vaccine on Friday can visit a clinic at Western Harnett High School in Lillington on Wednesday, March 10, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
