'A lot of violent situations:' Neighbors concerned after early morning standoff in Durham

Durham police said two suspects robbed a victim at gunpoint in the 900 block of Holloway Street at about 1:30 a.m. and took cash. The men then fled to an apartment in the 800 block of Eva Street.

Resident Priscilla Cooper said police showed up in force outside her home.

"They come into my house and shoot the house up. I thought it was on fire," she said.

Heavily armored officers, some of whom had guns pointed at the home, lined the street early Saturday morning. There were loud bangs at one point, and police could be heard talking over loud speakers.

"Talking about somebody robbed somebody and they weren't even here," Cooper said.

Authorities said police attempted a "knock and talk" at the residence, where the suspects locked the door and barricaded themselves inside.

The hostage negotiation team and the selective enforcement team responded to the scene.

The residence's two occupants surrendered at 7 a.m. No firearms were found inside the residence.

Anthony Devone Jones, 40, was charged Saturday afternoon in connection with the robbery. Police did not released the name of the second suspect, or say if that man will face charges.

Amber Treaster said she was caught in the middle of the standoff. Her car was parked in front of the home on Eva Street and, when she returned to it, she said two windows were broken.

Andre Hough lives nearby and said he evacuated with his family during the ordeal.

"We have a lot of violent situations in Durham, and it is bad and it is time for us to come together and talk about it," he said.

No one was injured in either incident.
