At Liberty Senior Living, residents are not just spectators when it comes to their community life. They are active participants, involved in meetings and planning activities, and aware of what is happening around them. This is thanks to the leadership opportunities Liberty provides. In many senior living communities, the staff makes all the decisions, and the residents just follow whatever is planned. But at Liberty, residents have a say in what goes on. After all, this is their home, and they should have a hand in shaping it.

"At Brightmore of Wilmington, we have a very active Resident Association composed of many different committees for residents to be a part of and have a voice in the community. It is led by a resident council with president, vice president, secretary, and 16 resident-led committees,” said Lisa Sherril, executive director of the community.

The committees work to enrich the lives of residents with a variety of activities based around the components of the Brightmore lifestyle: intellectual, physical, social and spiritual. The resident council meets quarterly to discuss the current interests and concerns of Brightmore residents and to help set the agenda for the quarterly General Resident Association Meetings where all residents are encouraged to attend to learn about everything going on in the community.

All Liberty communities allow residents to play a leadership role through community councils. The councils are made up of residents who meet regularly to discuss concerns, plan events and provide input on various aspects of life at Liberty.

Activity committees are responsible for planning and executing various social, educational and recreational activities. They are also a great way for residents to get to know each other and build relationships.

Each Liberty community also includes residents who are nominated to serve as liaisons, helping to communicate concerns, ideas and feedback from the residents to the staff. Resident leaders also play an important role in promoting community involvement and helping to plan events and activities. Unlike traditional senior living communities, Liberty communities are truly vibrant and active places thanks to the involvement of residents.

“The resident association's input is a huge part of how I oversee the community,” Sherril said. “The president of the association and I work closely together. Each month she brings all suggestions and comments from the residents for us to discuss and work to see what we can accomplish together to make our community stronger and the best it can be!"

A true sense of community and connection is what sets Liberty Senior Living apart from other traditional senior living communities. If you are looking for a place to call home where you can be involved and make a difference, look no further than Liberty Senior Living.
