APEX, N.C. — From April until December, the Apex Farmers Market, which is located at 73 Hunter St., is open from 9 a.m. until noon. In addition to dozens of fresh fruit and vegetable options from local farmers, the farmer's market has live music, baked goods and handcrafted goods.

Some of the vendors you can expect to see at the farmer's market are:

  • Mama Roe's Italian Specialties
  • Taste of Poland
  • Peak City Coffee
  • Sassy Goat Soaps
  • Apex Seafood and Market
  • Fatboy Farms
  • McGinbey Family Farms

You can find the most up to date list of vendors before each farmers market on the organization's Facebook page.

You can continue enjoying your day in Apex outdoors by heading over to Jordan Lake. The per-car fee for summer is $7 per day is is charged daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day and on weekends in April, May and September.

Five out of nine of the recreation' area's access points are in Apex, including the visitor center at 280 State Park Road.

The area has over 1,000 family campsites. Reservations should be made at least 24 hours advance. Visitors can also enjoy a picnic lunch at several of the picnic areas. All picnic areas except for Vista Point even have a playground for kids to burn off their energy.

One of the unique opportunities available at Jordan Lake is eagle watching. The website for the recreation area says it supports "the largest concentration of bald eagles in the eastern United States."

North Carolina State Parks officials recommend looking for them in the early morning or late in the day. Recommended spots for viewing the eagles are Vista Point, Ebenezer and Seaforth recreation areas.

Those wanting to spend time on the water are also in luck. The boat ramps at the Ebenezer Church and Robeson Creek recreation areas are open 24 hours a day. Visitors can also rent kayaks and pontoon boats to take out on the lake at Crosswinds Boating Center.
