Raleigh, N.C. — Award-winning chefs Ashley Christensen and Vivian Howard have revealed the list of chefs participating in cooking demos as part of the upcoming Thrive NC event in Raleigh next month.
The North Carolina chefs have each selected talented chefs from the Carolinas and Virginia to do demonstrations May 9-10 in City Market in downtown Raleigh.
In addition to chef demos, each night will include a food festival with food and drink samples from North Carolina vendors and live music. Thrive NC is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
The local chefs will also select six non-profits working to improve food insecurity in the state to receive proceeds from event ticket sales.
The two-day event also includes a Thrive NC Summit each day that delves into North Carolina’s food issues, including childhood obesity and access to fresh and healthy food.
Howard, who stars in A Chef’s Life on PBS and owns Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, selected Dean Neff of PinPoint Restaurant in Wilmington, Brian Noyes of Red Truck Rural Bakery of Marshall, Virginia and Cynthia Wong of Life Raft Treats in Charleston, S.C., for demos at Thrive NC on May 9.
Christensen, who is currently a finalist for the James Beard Award for best chef in the country, selected Meherwan Irani of Chai Pani in Asheville and Cheetie Kumar of Garland in Raleigh to kick off demonstrations on May 10. Lin Peterson of Locals Seafood in Raleigh and Keith Rhodes of Catch in Wilmington are up next, followed by Vansana Nolintha of Bida Manda and Brewery Bhavana in Raleigh and Michael Lee of M Sushi, M Kokko and M Tempura in Durham.
Tickets for the food festival are on sale now. A limited number of tickets for May 9 remain available but May 10 tickets have sold out. More details can be found on the event website.
