Raleigh's oldest brewery announces relocation

Big Boss Brewing opened in a large warehouse at 1249 Wicker Drive in 2006. Brewery Director Seth Adams confirmed to WRAL on Wednesday that the brewery's last day at its original location will be Aug. 28.

"We are not closing. We are going to relocate," Adams said.

Adams said the company is looking for a new location for a taproom and production facility. The hope is to secure a new spot and relaunch in 2023, Adams said.

Despite not having a taproom, Adams said the beer will still be available in the marketplace, noting, "We want to make sure that people know that Big Boss isn't going away. We've worked really hard. This last month we've launched four or five new beers that the world hasn't seen," Adams said.

"We are still making new beer that is for the marketplace and the taproom. All of our cans got a brand refresh.

"We want to freshen up what Big Boss was, and we are excited for this next phase of our transition and have it come to life," Adams said.

Big Boss's Wicker Driver location is owned by Grubb Ventures, which is also behind the expansive Raleigh IronWorks development being constructed nearby. Project information filed with the City of Raleigh show that 1249 Wicker Drive is among three warehouses in the area being redeveloped into mixed-use spaces.
