Raleigh, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday night after being struck by a car on Perry Creek Road in north Raleigh.
Police said Ziari King was running across the 8000 block of Perry Creek Road just before 6 p.m. when she was struck by a 2008 Honda sedan driven by Michael Steven Britt Jr., 26, of Raleigh.
Ziari, a third-grader at North Forest Pines Elementary School, was thrown 55 feet by the impact, according to a police report. She was taken to WakeMed, and later transferred to Duke University Hospital.
Many neighbors near the intersection of Perry Creek Road and Filbin Creek Drive heard the impact of the collision.
"I just heard the squealing of the tires. When I walked out the door, I heard the screaming, so I went and got ... help because, the way they were screaming, it sounded like there were a whole bunch of people," said neighbor Tiara Hedgepeth.
"I am still shocked," said neighbor D'Mari Thomas. "I ain't really thinking straight about the situation."
No charges were filed against Britt.
