WENDELL, N.C. — A five-vehicle wreck in Johnston County sent nine people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

None of the people was seriously hurt.

The wreck happened about 2:45 p.m. in the 6000 block of Applewhite Road near Wendell. Troopers said traffic along the road was slowing when a driver rear-ended another vehicle. That collision caused a domino effect, and all five vehicles were damaged.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman whose name was not immediately released, was charged with failing to reduce speed and unsafe tires, troopers said.
