The biggest threat will be damaging winds and heavy rain, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out in our southern counties. The storms are expected to impact these areas from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

An 81-year-old Cumberland County man was arrested Thursday on child sex charges, police said.

<b>SPRING LAKE, N.C.</b> — An 81-year-old Cumberland County man was arrested Thursday on child sex charges, police said.

Wilmer Cortez Thomas was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under $20,000 bond.

Spring Lake police received an allegation against Thomas in late August, and investigators determined he had sexually assaulted two children between May 2014 and August, police said.

Police asked that anyone with information relating to the investigation or any incidents involving Thomas call Spring Lake police Detective E. Wendler at 910-436-0350.
