80,000 people attended Dreamville in Raleigh, generating more than $6.7 million
J. Cole's Dreamville Festival, held April 2-3 at Dix Park, generated more than $6.7 million in direct economic impact to Wake County, according to VisitRaleigh.
Posted — UpdatedThe two-day music festival created by the Fayetteville native was attended by 80,000 people this spring, organizers said. Tickets for the festival were sold in all 50 states and 20 countries, and area hotels were booked. Occupancy in Wake County rose to 92% on the Saturday night of the festival.
The festival was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the first event in 2019 brought in nearly $3.8 million.
The first festival in 2019 attracted a crowd of 40,000 for just one-day.
According to VisitRaleigh, the overall impact of Dreamville was actually greater than $6.7 million.
VisitRaleigh explained, "It is important to note that the $6.7 million is a conservative estimate that does not include locals’ spending, nor does it include a multiplier of indirect or induced impacts. It represents tourism economic impact only, which is new money coming into the local economy.
"I feel that we have been a great partner to Dreamville," said Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin. "They have been a great partner to us, and we look forward to them continuing to set the stage for what can be done out at Dix Park."
Dreamville performers included both well-known, national acts and up-and-comers, including WizKid, Lil Baby, Kehlani, Wiz Khalifa, Wale and T-Pain, as well as the entire Dreamville Records roster.
