8 NC educators selected as regional Principals of the Year

Eight public school principals have been selected as regional Wells Fargo North Carolina Principals of the Year and will compete for the state title of 2020 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Eight public school principals have been selected as regional Wells Fargo North Carolina Principals of the Year and will compete for the state title of 2020 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.
The winner will succeed the 2019 recipient, Matthew Bristow-Smith, principal of Edgecombe Early College High School in Edgecombe County.

The regional principals of the year are:

  • West: Lori Fox, Haywood Early College (Haywood County Schools)
  • Northwest: Kisha Clemons, Shuford Elementary School (Newton-Conover City Schools)
  • Southwest: Jennifer Brinson, Wolf Meadow Elementary School (Cabarrus County Schools)
  • Piedmont: Ashley Lemley, Southwood Elementary (Davidson County Schools)
  • North Central: Ruth Steidinger, Olive Chapel Elementary (Wake County Schools)
  • Sandhills: Alfred Jean Hammond, Upchurch Elementary (Hoke County Schools)
  • Northeast: Sheila Evans, White Oak Elementary (Edenton-Chowan Schools)
  • Southeast: Deborah Hoffman, Jacksonville Commons Elementary (Onslow County Schools)

The Principal of the Year Award was introduced in 1984 to recognize the critical role of the principal in establishing a culture that supports the pursuit and achievement of academic excellence in North Carolina schools. The 2020 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year will be announced May 15.
