79-year-old Raleigh woman found safe after overnight search

Police were searching for a missing senior in an east Raleigh neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police have located a senior woman who went missing near an east Raleigh neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, Bertha Oakman, 79, was last seen Monday evening in the 7200 block of Vanover Drive, near Buffaloe Road and Forestville Road.

Police and Oakman's adult daughter were searching the neighborhood for her in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, when temperatures were in the mid 30s. Oakman was located before 5 a.m. and is okay, according to police.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, Bertha Oakman, 79, was last seen Monday evening in the 7200 block of Vanover Drive, near Buffaloe Road and Forestville Road.

Oakman, who stands 4 feet 11 inches tall, was wearing white socks, a black bonnet cap, brown-framed glasses, black and white pajama bottoms, a floral coat with blue and pink flowers and a white long-sleeved undershirt.

Her concerned daughter was at the search site and spoke briefly to WRAL News.
