RALEIGH, N.C. — A 75-year-old great-grandfather and a 46-year-old woman died in a Raleigh house fire early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews responded to a home in the 1300 block of Seabrook Road after 2 a.m. The fire created a hole in the roof of the single-story structure. Firefighters were still putting out the blaze more than an hour after the fire started.

Hampton Bunch pulled out of the fire and taken to WakeMed, where he died. Anna Brodie died before making it out of the home.

Officials said that the home had no smoke detector.

Deshawn Utley, relative of the two who died, said he didn't believe the news when he woke up this morning.

"I thought I woke up to a lie," he said.

Neighbors and family gathered in the street to pray for the man and woman while crews put out the fire.
