71-year-old man hit by car in Fayetteville dies

A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in a Fayetteville crash.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 71-year-old man was hit by a car and killed early Friday morning.

Around 4 a.m., Fayetteville police officers responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Owen Drive. Police said Larrie McKinnon, from Fayetteville, was walking by the roadway was struck by a car. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Brittany Teague, 30, from Hope Mills hit the man and stayed at the scene. Police officers did not announce any charges.

Rain was falling and roads were wet at the time of the crash, but it was not confirmed to be weather-related.

Owen Drive was closed for more than an hour.
