There are so many fun activities in Washington in the spring; it’s one of the best times of the year to visit. Temps are mild, events are popping, and the riverfront is a beautiful jewel.

(Of course, it’s a treasure any time of year). Here are 7 must-do’s for this Spring in Washington.

1. Cycling. Whether you are a hardcore distance cyclist, a leisurely site-seer, or a family that wants a fun activity while in town, Washington has options for you. Inner Banks Outfitters, a cycling staple in town, rents (and sells) all kinds of bikes, cruisers, electric bikes, and even rents golf carts.

River Vibes, a local smoothie bar and cruiser renter, has what you need for a casual ride in the Harbor District and a juice smoothie, refresher, or a boba pearl tea after your excursion.

2. Kayaking. Again, River Vibes is a place to go for kayak and paddle boat rentals. They’ll get you & your rental right down to the waterfront to get you out on the Pamlico River ASAP.
Inner Banks Outfitters also offers kayaks and SUP’s. They are located at one of the public boat docks, and offer instruction if you’re a newbie.
3. North Carolina Estuarium. If you haven’t visited the NC Estuarium, or even if you have, a spring trip is in order. This innovative environmental center is the world’s first Estuarium, celebrating the Pamlico-Albemarle estuary, where fresh and saltwater meet. The exhibits include aquariums with estuarine life, educational and art exhibits, interactive displays, and more. There is even a riverboat tour that takes you along the river. There is a slight charge for admission to the exhibits. The riverboat ride is free, but reservations are required for the boat ride. Call for more information 252-948-0000, Tuesday-Saturday 10:30-3:30.
4. Arts of the Pamlico. Take in a performance or an art exhibit at the Historic Turnage Theatre. The Turnage is a working, fully restored historic vaudeville theatre, offering concerts, plays, ballets, opera, art and photography exhibits, and much more. For a full listing of events or to purchase tickets, go to their website.
5. Maritime Festival. Discover all things nautical at the Harbor District Maritime Festival on April 29th, 9am-2pm. Washington’s annual event- the place where kids and adults alike experience the magic of getting on the water, the beauty of watercrafts, and the richness of our maritime culture. Learn from the experts, swap stories with fellow boat aficionados, and bring your family for a weekend they’ll never forget. This year, the fun continues with ‘Sails & Ales,’ from 4-7pm, including live entertainment, craft breweries, & food trucks. All on the beautiful Washington waterfront! Be sure to follow the Washington Harbor District Alliance to get more information.
6. Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum. Learn about Washington, NC’s prominent role in the history of freedom seekers. How the port town was important, the communication through ingenious methods, and how that history has shaped the city as we know it now. Follow the museum for updates, hours, and more information.
7. Breweries. Washington now has two breweries and a taproom downtown. One on the water, one with a rooftop lounge, and one that simply has ‘a beer for everyone.’ Don’t miss Pitt Street Brewing on the Pamlico, The Mulberry House, and Two Rivers Alehouse. You’ll be glad you did!

Whether you want to get outside, get on the water, take in some shows and events, learn some history, or just have a cold one, Washington has what you’re looking for this Spring.

Fun awaits you here! What are you waiting for?
