63-year-old killed after car slams into barrier along I-40 in Garner

A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 40 near Raleigh on Friday morning.

GARNER, N.C. — A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 40 in Garner on Friday morning.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said William Gillespie, 28, of Dunn, lost control of the car, ran off the left side of the road and slammed into a barrier in the median.

Sherman Cannady, 63, of Dunn, who was riding in the backseat of the car, was killed in the crash. Troopers said Cannady was not wearing a seatbelt.

Shannon Fogg, 29, of Dunn, and four children under the age of eight were taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh for treatment of minor injuries.

Gillespie was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving, driving while license revoked and child restraint violation.
