Ryan M. Wells, 30, of 5113 Roswellcrest Court in Apex, owns Cary based Home Restoration Assistance, which is also known as HRA.
Wells was picked up on charges he wrote bad checks in December, including two totaling $6,750 to a building supply company.
Wells closed HRA in January. It is now empty with a foreclosure notice on the front door.
Five on Your Side has more than 20 complaints against Wells and HRA. Customers say Wells either did not complete work they paid for, or never even started it. In all, they say they’re out about $270,000.
A 5 On Your Side investigation also found that Wells changed his name back in 2004. He was previously known as Ryan Kamal.
Wells is scheduled to appear in court on the criminal charges later this month. Also, his attorney said he plans to file bankruptcy soon.
