Before you eat another strawberry...

Many of us LOVE strawberries-- but we don't know much about how to wash, prepare and keep them.. or about what else might be enjoying them!

Strawberry season is here!  I LOVE them-- can't get enough of them!   I like them in cereal for breakfast, on salads for lunch, out of a ziplock for a snack, as a side item for dinner and ANY WAY AT ALL for dessert!   I just bought a half flat. Some are the size of small apples!  They'll be gone by tomorrow-- despite what a friend just sent me!
Within minutes after I polished off a bag full of berries, my friend Mary sent an e-mail that stopped my chewing in its tracks!  It included a link that will definitely have me taking a closer look at the next strawberry I eat-- and probably all strawberries for some time to come.  It involves tiny insects that can be on them.  The bottom line-- you need to WASH them, really well.  REALLY well.  I mean, I know insects are everywhere.   But,   we don't like to think about it.  And we certainly want to wash off the insects if we can.  Check out the link-- I also included another link that offers a washing routine that does NOT include SOAP!  That seems a little much for me.  In the second link-- there's also information about how to prepare strawberries so that you bring out their best taste, and how to store them so that they'll last as long as possible!  So bite into another berry and enjoy... AFTER you wash it!
