Mother arrested after 5-year-old shot, rushed to hospital in Roanoke Rapids

Two people were arrested after a 5-year-old child was shot in the arm in Roanoke Rapids on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the child's mother was arrested, as well as a male acquaintance.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Two people were arrested after a 5-year-old child was shot in the arm in Roanoke Rapids on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the child's mother was arrested, as well as a male acquaintance.

Police were called to a disturbance at the T-Mobile store on Premiere Blvd. at around 3 p.m.

Witnesses told police they saw a white vehicle leave the location with a person in the car wearing a bloody shirt. They also said there was possibly a child in the vehicle.

Police found the white vehicle at the hospital. Inside the hospital, officers found the 5-year-old child who had been shot in the left arm.

According to police, the child is stable, but will be life-flighted to a different hospital because of their age.

Two individuals are in custody, according to the police.
