CARY, N.C. — Darci Lynne, the youngest contestant to win "America's Got Talent," is coming to Cary's Booth Amphitheatre for a show this Sunday, Aug. 5.

The 13-year-old ventriloquist wowed the AGT judges and nation when she won season 12 of the hit show on NBC show. After winning, she sold out her headlining show in just six minutes, adding more to satisfy the demand.

As I've written before, my girls LOVED watching her on the America's Got Talent stage. She is an amazing talent, who can sing better as a ventriloquist than most people can with their lips freely flapping.

Here she is earning that golden buzzer during her audition, allowing her to jump to America's Got Talent's live show.

I checked in with Darci Lynne, an Oklahoma native, by email to find out what she's up to, why ventriloquism and more. Here's a Q&A.
Go Ask Mom: You are hugely popular now. Do you still pinch yourself and wonder if this is all really happening? For those of us looking in from the outside, what's it like?
Darci Lynne: It's so crazy to think about! I don’t think about myself as a celebrity. I only think of myself as Darci, but it’s a dream come true doing all the things I’ve gotten to do!
GAM: Most of us got to know you on America's Got Talent, but it's clear a lot of hard work got you where you are now. How much do you practice your craft these days?
DL: I have to practice everyday. I do this because if I don’t, I end up getting pretty rusty. So I’d like to be on point for all the audiences I perform for.
GAM: What do you love about ventriloquism?
DL: First, I love how different it is! It’s not a common art, so it's fun being among the few people who do it! Second, it makes people smile and I love that!
GAM: You have stepped away from your puppets to sing on your own, including with Fergie in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. Will you do more of that going forward?
DL: I love singing by myself! I’ve been singing since I was 6, so I do hope to sing more independently in the future! I can’t choose between my puppets and just singing at the moment.
GAM: My kids are HUGE fans of yours (and can't wait to see you in Cary!). What do you say to young fans out there who are absolutely in love with you and your talent?
DL: I would say thank you!! And to follow your dreams because you never know what could happen!!! I’m living proof that your dreams can come true, so don’t ever give up️.
Tickets start at $35 for Sunday's show. Booth Amphitheatre's website has the details.
