RALEIGH, N.C. — Wondering what restaurants are doing to protect you from COVID-19?

5 On Your Side talked with Wake County restaurant environmental health leaders about what is being done differently during the inspection process — considering the pandemic. We learned Wake County inspectors now have face masks, gloves and hand sanitizer to use during inspections.

Inspectors have a greater focus on disinfection. They're handing out packets of information about products approved for disinfection during the pandemic. Restaurants are being reminded of what to disinfect and how to do it.

We're told it goes "above and beyond" the county's normal cleaning and sanitizing guidance. It's all to keep restaurants as safe as possible.

Of course, they're still checking food safety. That's critical to avoid any food borne illness outbreaks.
