5 On Your Side, building company help homeowner get straightened out
Last summer, Monica Laliberte reported on a homeowner's struggles with her builder to get her bowed and warped front columns on the front of her home repaired.
Posted — Updated"I would see people walking their dog or whatever, and they would kind of look, and some of them would turn their head, and I knew exactly what they were thinking," Anna Madison said of the problem.
She emailed 5 On Your Side in August when Stancil Builders said the warped columns on the front of her home were not covered under their warranty.
After 5 On Your Side got involved, Stancil agreed to pay $3,000 toward a fix, but quotes Madison received were much more.
The company gave Madison two new columns, worth $2,150 apiece at no charge.
"Oh, my goodness, I’m telling you, that is just a company who didn’t have to do it, but they did," said Madison.
She hired a local contractor to remove the warped columns and install the new ones.
"As you can see, the columns are now straight," Madison shared.
They’re also no longer sitting directly on the porch, where water could cause issues, and her formerly wobbly railing is now rock solid.
William Hayes, HB&G’s Director of Sales, sent this statement:
“HB&G Building Products was delighted to lend a helping hand and contribute to replacing Mrs. Madison’s bowing front porch columns. It not only allowed us to help during these unprecedented times, it also helps to spread the word that there are pre-fabricated alternatives to site-built columns. Mrs. Madison’s new columns were manufactured at our facility from synthetic materials that are impervious to the weather and will stand the test of time.”
Madison told 5 On Your Side she can’t say enough about the company.
"To be willing to do that for someone that has no connection with them at all, that speaks volumes to me," she said.
"I’d just like to thank 5 On Your Side for taking my case and helping me get this resolved with the columns. As you can see, they’re nice and straight now."
Madison said the neighbors no longer have reason to turn their heads and wonder when they walk by.
