Local Lego lovers know a big weekend is coming up. BrickUniverse, the convention for Lego fans, is making its annual stop here.

The event will be at the Raleigh Convention Center both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets, which are $15 online and $18 at the door, are on sale now, and they can sell out.

The popular event includes Lego experts, building zones, challenge zones, lots of hands-on activities and some really impressive displays. I've been a couple of times with my kids, who have both had a great time.

What we really love seeing are those massive displays which require thousands of bricks to create. I asked Greyson Beights, BrickUniverse's creator, to share 5 extraordinary creations that will be on display this weekend.

If you go, here's what you'll see - Lego-style.

Lego Batman and Robin, Joker's Funhouse

Created by builder Paul Hetherington of Canada, this won best in show at Brickcon 2013 in Seattle and was featured on the Discovery Channel. "This creation is loosely based on several of the Batman Video Game Funhouses. The Funhouse is built with three 'levels' to allow for three separate Batman and Robin scenes," according to Hetherington's Flickr page.

A YouTube video that shows off this massive creation has more than 3.4 million views.

Grand Central Station

It's on view at BrickUniverse 2018.
Builder Jonathan Lopes of San Diego designed and built this beauty between March and May 2017, complete with the solid walls and giant windows that the New York City train station is known for. Fun fact: It has a footprint of 5 feet by 5 feet!

Central London

Central London by Rocco Buttliere
From builder Rocco Buttliere of Chicago, this 50,000-piece creation includes the London Eye and Big Ben, among other landmarks, and represents more than 3.5 million square feet of Central London, according to his Flickr page. It took more than two years to build. Fun fact: The whole layout is to an exact 1/650 scale. It also has been exhibited in both England and Scotland.

Unchain My Heart

The Lego creation will be on display at BrickUniverse 2018.
Another by Hetherington, this "surrealist Lego steampunk sculpture" won Best in Show at Brickcon 2015 in Seattle and has all kinds of moving parts. Hetherington talks about it in this YouTube video.

Space Launch System

The creation will be on display at BrickUniverse 2018.

Yep ... that's actually made of Legos. This was created by builder Lia Chan of Dallas. Fun fact: It features lights to actually illuminate the "blast-off."
