WENDELL, N.C. — Wake County sheriff's deputies took five students into custody Tuesday morning following a fight at East Wake High School.

One of those students received a minor head injury and was treated at the scene.

The brawl started shortly before 10 a.m., authorities said, but classes were not interrupted. School started late because of a staff meeting.

A school official said he believed the fight was an isolated incident and that fighting is rare for the school, which has about 1,600 students.

It is the second time this week local authorities were called to a high school because of fighting.

On Monday, authorities arrested eight Northern High School students and charged them with disorderly conduct after a fight on the school's football field. The school had been evacuated because of a bomb threat.
